Mark Wallis said: “I’ve known Daren for a long time as an owner and as a friend. This is going to be very hard but he isn’t going to give up and is such a great guy I wasn’t really surprised when he told me what he was going and why. Both charities do a great job and I hope that the greyhound world really gets behind him. Trainers can collect from owners on Sundays and tracks should play their part too. We’ll be catching up with him along the way and trying to run for at least part of the way!”

Even the trainer will be supporting his endeavor. It will be hard for Johnson to actually run the John O’Groats to Lands End route to try to raise £100,000 for charity so he will be fulfilling the promise made in the past. But, though hard, he will most likely make it with the great support from everyone. His run for charity will be getting great support from Wallis and all.

The money raised will most likely go to the Retired Greyhound Trust and Help For Heroes which for Johnson have been also helpful to many. Hopefully, he will really make it. May he be able to run the John O’Groats to Lands End route to try to raise £100,000 for charity. It was said that he will try to be done running in under a month.

Johnson said: “I did a couple of marathons in the 1990s and until a few years ago I played a bit of football too. This is going be very, very tough but if people are going to donate their hard-earned I can’t have it easy!”

According to reports, Johnson will try to raise as huge as £100,000 for charity. Both the Retired Greyhound Trust and Help For Heroes will benefit if ever. It was said that he will try to run the John O’Groats to Lands End route for less than a month. He will be actually running more than 850 miles. He must be able to run about 30 miles a day to succeed.

Johnson said in addition: “I want to raise £100,000 which is a huge ask, but if all the dog people that I know are out there up and down the country just give a bit back we can make a real difference for both charities. We’ve always looked after our dogs when they stop racing and we want to promote and support the RGT. Last year a guy that used to work for me was injured badly in Afghanistan. Rob [Long] lost both his eyes and was standing next to his best friend who was killed in the blast. You hear it all the time on the news but when it happens to someone you know it really hammers home just what it means to a young life, and that was that. The run was on.”

However, the owners of the October 2006 son of Premier Fantasy and Farloe Oysterwas failed to win the Owners of the Year title. Instead of Paul Shaw, Simon Wooder and Kieron Roe, owners of Kinda Ready were the ones who brought home the title. But such owners, Daren Johnson, Gary Crouch, Chris Badger and Lee Jordan have actually been doing their part for Kinda Ready.

Lister, though didn’t directly won a title, seemed like a real winner as well as it was already his fourth time to be at Greyhound of the Year awarding ceremony following Spring Rose in 1996, Some Picture in 1997 and Rapid Ranger in 2001. Just more to come for this great trainer.

In total, Fear Zafonic raced for 20 times in 2009 from as early as January 5 to November 26. And for the record, he won for 9 times. In big events, he made it. Just like in Perry Barr and Yarmouth, he was successful.

Fear Zafonic, considering his achievements, was the one then that’s truly worthy of the highly distinguished 2009 Greyhound of the Year title, which indeed a lot have been wanting.

But others that failed to win the most sought after title should not feel undeserving. Any greyhound that gave it all in 2009′s races was deserving as well for such title.

Others that failed should not let themselves be drowned in despair. There is always a next time. For this year’s title, they still have a chance. They should just again be well in the race tracks.

Kinda Ready had a winter break with breeders Ian and Brenda Seymour. For some weeks, he rested and stayed away from the racetracks. He went on vacation right before Christmas but after the season went back to his trainer Mark Wallis, who then worked him out to be back in form.

However, Wallis didn’t find it easy to work on Kinda Ready because of the bad weather after Christmas. And now, though not really shaken by the pressure of competition, the famous trainer acknowledges that the event is not that far away and that his greyhound still needs to become undoubtedly fit.

“The Trainers’ Championship isn’t that far away and the dog needs six to eight weeks toget fit”, Wallis said.

But then Wallis realizes that Kinda Ready likes Monmore and running there will be good for him.

“He obviously likes Monmore, and it’s such a great track for a dog to run on. At this stage a sprint there is ideal for him”, Wallis said.

Yes, the event is not that far away and because of the bad weather after Christmas, Kinda Ready still needs to work out for weeks in order to get fit. But then the Derby winner will be good for sure. He will be fit with the guidance of Wallis. He will give everyone a good performance at the Trainers’ Championship.

But of course, there is no need to feel complacent. Though Wallis is a really good trainer and Kinda Ready is a champion greyhound, a rigid work out is still badly needed for the big event. The two will still have to go through a sort of a battle.

Just like most of us, the famous greyhound took some time to rest during the Christmas season. He actually had several months to rest and he spent them with breeders Ian and Brenda Seymour. But now he is back to continue running in the tracks, to continue giving everyone into greyhound racing and betting the fun and excitement that only good races can bring.

Wallis said just few days ago, “he came back to Imperial Kennels just before Christmas and looks particularly well. It’s lovely to have him back. Obviously, with the weather as bad as it is at present, there’s not much we can do with him.”

After few months of rest, though Kinda Ready seems really back in form, he still needs to go through preparation. At Wimbledon, he will be facing some of the best greyhounds and he will actually have to beat all of them to be able to keep his crown. For sure even him, he would want to, he is indeed a smart greyhound.

But of course, they are still some months away from the competition at Wimbledon. Kinda Ready and trainer Wallis still have ample of time to prepare. Hopefully the weather gets better soon so the two can finally start working on some things out. Kinda Ready just came back from vacation and he might be in form because of getting some rest but might still need to stretch out his legs to be able to make good leaps at Wimbledon this coming summer.

As of now, there are several greyhounds to be considered for the title. Several options indeed that will succeed last year’s winner Lenson Joker.

First on the list is actually Fear Zafonic, that according to one insider, looks to have the edge now. And for such insider, “He was just touched off in the Derby, but has come back to win the Betfair Derby at Yarmouth. He had some wins in the early part of the year, too.”

But fans of Zafonic are not yet that complacent about their greyhound on bagging home the title. At Nottingham, for the upcoming Eclipse, award nominees Lenson Bolt and Eye Onthe Storm will battle which may then change the situation in regards to the race for the title on being the Greyhound of the Year.

Next on the list is most likely Derby winner Kinda Ready, the leading hurdler Platinumlancelot. Followed possibly by the Glenroe Ginger and then by Ballymac Ruso. The latter should have improved his profile by aid of the All England Cup at Newcastle.

Well it’s still quite a long way to go for all the candidates for the Greyhound of the Year title. Yes, there are still some major events happening next month that can greatly affect the race for the title. All of the greyhound racing and betting fans’ should still keep keen eyes on the possible things that may happen. The race is not yet even close to being over.
