Graeme Bate and Dyna Forte Lost SA Derby Title Due to Positive Drug Swab

Yes, the famous trainer Graeme Bate and dog under his care Dyna Forte just lost a SA Derby title due to a positive drug swab. The trainer was found guilty by the GRSA Stewards of a positive drug swab taken from the Group 3 SA Derby winner of 2009, Dyna Forte.

Some fans of Bate-Forte tandem were saddened by the news. Just recently, the two lost two companions in racing, Velocette and Amity Bale, that both retired because of injury.

Bate was not penalized with suspension or disqualification because of the result of the swab inquiry but then was ordered to fine $3 000 and then not to get a claim for the $21 500 prize money for Dyna Forte’s SA Derby victory. He actually pleaded guilty before the GRSA Stewards.

On the night of the Derby, the first three placers went through a routine urinary swab analysis. Beer Time of Matcott, ended up getting the 2nd place, and Dentax Bale of Bate as well, ended up getting 3rd place, turned negative to drug swab. It was only the Paul Wheeler-owned Dyna Forte that turned positive. Thompson to Possibly Face Suspension or Lengthy Disqualification

Mr. Jason Thompson, a registered and well known greyhound trainer, is now facing real trouble. Possibly, he will get suspended or has to face lengthy disqualification. Mainly, this is because of him getting involved in an alleged incidents in the kennel block area at the conclusion of races 8 and 9 last Thursday, 27th of November 2008. Seona Hood, Thompson’s wife and trainer partner is also involved, as well as Danny McDonald trainer of Surgeon.

2008 Group 1 Melbourne Cup Controversy

El Galo Turned Positive to Swab

Based from the preliminary urine sample taken from the greyhound El Galo right after the Group 1 Topgun, Race 8 at the Meadows last month, 25th of October to be detailed, the said El Galo turned out to be positive to swab. From Galo’s urine sample, there was indication of presence of the drug N-butyl-hyoscine.

Trainer of El Galo who happens to be Mr. Jason Thompson of Pearcedale was notified by way of kennel inspection conducted by stewards last 13th of November. Owner, Ms. Seona Hood, was notified the same way.

Inquiry about the happenings surrounding the case will be held at a date which is still to be announced in the next days.

What’s N-butyl-hyoscine?

For the record, N-butyl-hyoscine is a prohibited substance which is present in Buscopan and Spasmogesic. Typically, it is a treatment for horses with colic.

There are already a lot of times in the past which Victorian thoroughbred racehorses testing positive in post-race urine samples to n-butyl-hyoscine. Effects of this substance are said to be similar to those of propantheline bromide’s.
