Mr. Matt Corby also of GRSA said: “We’re aware of the rising costs associated with breeding greyhounds and recognize the commitment made by breeders to ensuring the future sustainability of the industry in SA. The framework for the Industry Stimulus Package, which we announced in June, made allowance for increased funding for breeders and the prioritization of this support has been reinforced by the newly formed Industry Taskforce.”

And according to the reports, the $150,000 annual fund will be very helpful. GRSA will really try to make the said fund available also to help registered South Australian breeders with all the expenses associated with greyhound breeding. The SA Breeder Rebate will be there and will be part of Industry Stimulus Package of the greyhound racing body created also for the welfare of greyhound racing industry in South Australia. Despite of only receiving a total of 39 nominations for the events, the governing greyhound racing body preferred to believe that there will be no problem. According to the reports, Industry Taskforce Committee will soon be really helpful with the bosses deciding to meet for the very first time before end of this month. Yes, they will also soon be gathering to actually talk about important matters. It will soon help the greyhound racing most especially in the said state, which has been facing many problems. The group and its bosses will also be working with the participants themselves which will also be very effective. Matt Corby of GRSA said: “Greyhound Racing continues to perform strongly in all states, but it’s essential that South Australia maintains a competitive position within the national framework. This cannot be achieved without reform. We’ve scheduled income generating races at four key tracks because that’s where demand (nominations) from industry participants is highest and the most sustainable.”

It was also said that GRSA only wanted to have strategic reforms also to achieve a sustainable greyhound racing industry in South Australia. And it will also be launching an Industry Taskforce and Industry Stimulus Package also for the greyhound racing in the state to just be as good as the greyhound racing of other states. And it was also not that confident that it will be easy to have certain things just for the greyhound racing industry in the state but will just be really trying to as they will be truly helpful. For the governing body, it will be hard to have strategic reforms and also other similar things though for greyhound racing industry in the state but will just have to seriously try to for it has been an obligation to have what will really help although will be not easy to.

Corby said: “The four track strategy will allow GRSA to be targeted in its capital expenditure program to ensure these facilities are brought in line with and maintained to nationally benchmarked standards.”

GRSA Chief Executive Officer Mr Matt Corby said: “Everyone in the industry has their own perspective and views on key issues and we’re hoping for a robust and respectful debate during each workshop. Feedback collected will be used to assist with the future decision making processes of the GRSA Board. Greyhound Racing has a great opportunity to strengthen its position as the number two racing code in South Australia. This depends upon making sure the right decisions are made now and that we plan for the future.”

During every workshop, all the industry participants can say whatever they want to on some key issues. And it will be important that they do so also for officials like Corby to know what opinions of owners, trainers, breeders and even punters are on some key issues. Sharing of opinions will be helpful when it comes to improving future of greyhound racing in South Australia. The issues will most likely include issues on SA tracks and facilities strategy, animal welfare, attracting and keeping participants and the likes.

It was said that there will be four workshops with 20 – 25 participants each. And they will take place in Chasers Restaurant at Angle Park on April 8, 9 and 11. Those from the industry can register for the workshops through the GRSA website. But registration will only be until Friday, March 18. They only have few more days to have their registration but at least they can still do so. They should not miss the chance to also help in improving future of greyhound racing in South Australia.

It was said that GRSA announced that the Finish on Lure system will be pushed through at Angle Park and Gawler for all of the races already scheduled. Studies made revealed that it will keep injury and suspension rates to a minimum at the said tracks.

According to reports, it was found out that the injury rates decreased by 18.1% and suspension rates by 67.3% under the Finish on Lure system. And decrease in injury rates as well as in suspension rates must be enough for GRSA to decide to actually conduct racing under the Finish on Lure system.

GRSA CEO Matt Corby said: “We believe the FOL system is the best practice approach based on available evidence and that this decision will reinforce the integrity of our local racing product. A redesign of the lure cover to reduce tail injuries and the availability of stronger muzzles has served to mitigate the injury risks normally associated with FOL. In making this decision we carefully reviewed the results of industry survey and submissions by participants. We acknowledge that industry opinion is divided on this issue but are of the firm view that FOL system is the best way forward for the industry.”

Corby insisted that they will be able to protect the welfare of racing greyhounds at Angle Park and Gawler with the Finish on Lure system which of course will be a good thing.

At end of the nominations of this year, GRSA received a total of 71 nominations. But at the end of the nominations of 2009, a total of 58 nominations were received.

At end of this year’s nominations, GRSA received 53 nominations for the Sprint Series and 18 nominations for the Distance Series. At end of last year’s nominations, 36 nominations were received for Sprint Series and 22 nominations for Distance Series.

For the Sprint Series of this year, GRSA received a lot of nominations. Acoustic Bale, Fevolution, Random Test, Tinashe Bale, Allen Yannic, Flaminia Bale, and Rawson Reason were some of the lucky ones nominated for such event. And for the Distance Series, GRSA also received many nominations. Brander Bale, Far From Simple, No Way Aaron, Sophina Bale, Cadman Bale, Hannah’s Jinx, and Satanic Cash were some of the lucky ones nominated for the said event.

Well, the ones nominated deserved to be actually nominated. They have shown what they have got to be actually considered worth nominating. They deserved to be nominated for the Sprint Series and naturally the Distance Series.

The South Australian Heats of the Championships will take place on August 12, Thursday. And the $7,000 State Finals will be on August 19, Thursday.

The first and second in the Sprint Final and Distance Final will represent South Australia in the much-awaited $75,000 National Finals. The big event will take place on August 28, Saturday, at Angle Park. Of course there will be a Box Draw for the heats and it will be released on August 9, Monday.

Ali was interviewed just right after the confirmation of the Mount Gambier investment and the CEO of GRSA just expressed optimism with the said investment.

“This investment will allow increases to GRSA’s wagering revenue through 26 Sunday matinee meetings and adds to the development of this regional greyhound population,” said Ali. “The first race meeting is planned for the 4th of July; however this is dependent on the installation as we are reliant on Sky to complete this in time.”

And the investment was said to be also extending to an improvement of the Semaphore Board and actually new Steriline boxes. And these upgrades can just make trip start and automatic closure be possible.

Naturally, the CEO of GRSA seemed thankful for the investment being pushed through. Ali acknowledged all that helped to make the investment plan come into reality.

Finally, Sparkling Spear recorded 51 starts with placings like 1sts reaching 13, 2nds reaching 11, and 3rds reaching 12 and with a total prize money of $42,285. Became Greyhound of the Month for October and won in events like Heat & Final SA Sprint Champ (Group 3) and Heat Bunyip Gawler Gold Cup.
