At end of the nominations of this year, GRSA received a total of 71 nominations. But at the end of the nominations of 2009, a total of 58 nominations were received.

At end of this year’s nominations, GRSA received 53 nominations for the Sprint Series and 18 nominations for the Distance Series. At end of last year’s nominations, 36 nominations were received for Sprint Series and 22 nominations for Distance Series.

For the Sprint Series of this year, GRSA received a lot of nominations. Acoustic Bale, Fevolution, Random Test, Tinashe Bale, Allen Yannic, Flaminia Bale, and Rawson Reason were some of the lucky ones nominated for such event. And for the Distance Series, GRSA also received many nominations. Brander Bale, Far From Simple, No Way Aaron, Sophina Bale, Cadman Bale, Hannah’s Jinx, and Satanic Cash were some of the lucky ones nominated for the said event.

Well, the ones nominated deserved to be actually nominated. They have shown what they have got to be actually considered worth nominating. They deserved to be nominated for the Sprint Series and naturally the Distance Series.

The South Australian Heats of the Championships will take place on August 12, Thursday. And the $7,000 State Finals will be on August 19, Thursday.

The first and second in the Sprint Final and Distance Final will represent South Australia in the much-awaited $75,000 National Finals. The big event will take place on August 28, Saturday, at Angle Park. Of course there will be a Box Draw for the heats and it will be released on August 9, Monday.

Ali was interviewed just right after the confirmation of the Mount Gambier investment and the CEO of GRSA just expressed optimism with the said investment.

“This investment will allow increases to GRSA’s wagering revenue through 26 Sunday matinee meetings and adds to the development of this regional greyhound population,” said Ali. “The first race meeting is planned for the 4th of July; however this is dependent on the installation as we are reliant on Sky to complete this in time.”

And the investment was said to be also extending to an improvement of the Semaphore Board and actually new Steriline boxes. And these upgrades can just make trip start and automatic closure be possible.

Naturally, the CEO of GRSA seemed thankful for the investment being pushed through. Ali acknowledged all that helped to make the investment plan come into reality.

“I acknowledge the support of the GRSA Board in making this investment which strengthens the Greyhound Racing product in this state and we look forward to working with Mr. Barry Shepherd, Secretary/Treasurer of the Mount Gambier Racing Club and their members,” said Ali. “I wish to also acknowledge the financial contribution that the Mount Gambier Racing Club is making to the upgrade of these facilities.”

Good to know that a lot in the greyhound racing industry had taken the steps to improvement. And with this, just a better greyhound racing industry can actually be anticipated by us.

The winner will be announced at the Awards Dinner on Saturday, 16th of January.

The finalists actually include Aunty Vick, Drink Driver, Gold, Scull Murphy, and Sparkling Spear. All became monthly winners last year.

Well, Aunty Vick recorded 43 starts with placings like 1sts reaching 12, 2nds reaching 13 and 3rds reaching 7 and with a total prize money of $29,500. Became Greyhound of the Month for August of last year and won in events like Heat Adelaide Cup and Heat & State Final National Sprint Champ.

Drink Driver recorded 29 starts with placings like 1sts reaching 10, 2nds reaching 5 and 3rds reaching 5 as well and with a total money of $66,600. Became Greyhound of the Month for February of last year and won in events like Heat Perth Cup and Final West End Anniversary Cup (Group 3).

Gold recorded 34 starts with placings like 1sts reaching 18, 2nds reaching 6 and 3rds reaching 6 and with a total prize money of $53,500. Became Greyhound of the Month for May and July of last year and won in events like Heat, & Final SA Breeders Plate (Group 3), Heat & Final Katakasi Vet Services Gawler Future Stars, and Heat, Semi & Final Gawler Produce Stake.

Scull Murphy recorded 17 starts with placings like 1sts reaching 7, 2nds reaching 6 and with a total prize money of $39,600. Became Greyhound of the Month for January of last year and won in events like New Year Sprint, Advertiser Interstate Challenge, St Patrick’s Day Sprint, and also Second Sky Channel Adelaide Cup Second Anniversary Cup.

Finally, Sparkling Spear recorded 51 starts with placings like 1sts reaching 13, 2nds reaching 11, and 3rds reaching 12 and with a total prize money of $42,285. Became Greyhound of the Month for October and won in events like Heat & Final SA Sprint Champ (Group 3) and Heat Bunyip Gawler Gold Cup.

It came as a surprise for many but then it is something for real. Sky Racing has renewed once again its deal to sponsor the South Australian Summer Chasing Carnival and this just includes the ever popular event, the Adelaide Cup.

Further coverage of other meetings and timeslots is being considered. But then, GRSA failed to say something about it. Perhaps, they still need more time to think about it, if it will actually be possible.

In October, Sky Racing said it has plans of splitting its present racing products in to at least three channels which include a premium thoroughbred only channel and two channels that will carry racing from all three codes however one will be significantly split between harness and greyhound racing.

The channel split will urge the harness and greyhound racing to provide more morning and daytime races. The traditional night time races are also good however less appealing.

Well for now, it is really the new agreement between GRSA and Sky Channel being finally signed that is confirmed. What is only sure is, South Australian Greyhound Racing will be provided with Sky coverage of as much as 52 Sunday twilight greyhound meetings.

The further coverage of other meetings and timeslots, along with the channel split, are not yet settled to the public. These are things that are still for them to know if will be pushed through or not. These are most likely still bound for more studies and considerations.

Gardiner was actually charged with a breach of the Greyhound Racing R83 of GRSA Rules which actually implies some things to be done. The rules states that:

• R83 Greyhound to be free of prohibited substances
  (2) The owner, trainer or person in charge of a greyhound-
• (a) nominated to compete in an Event;
• (b) presented for a satisfactory, weight or whelping trial or such other trial as provided for pursuant to these Rules; or
• (c) presented for any test or examination for the purpose of a period of incapacitation or prohibition being varied or revoked
  shall present the greyhound free of any prohibited substance.
  (3) The owner, trainer or person in charge of a greyhound presented contrary to sub-rule (2) shall be guilty of an offence.
  (4) A greyhound presented for an Event contrary to sub-rule (2) shall be disqualified from the Event or any benefit derived from a trial or test.

The greyhound Redgum Assassin was actually seventh of the eight runners in the last race on the card, and being defeated 10.75 lengths having been backed in to begin as fourth favourite.

Gardiner indeed has pleaded guilty and so was given a 5-month disqualification which effectivity started on the midnight of 26th of October 2009. Thus, Redgu Assassin was disqualified from the Event mentioned and then the placings there on were also corrected.

Gardiner has been into some troubles and that of his greyhound’s being positive to codeine is actually just one. The trainer should seriously ponder on this.
