The first thing you need to do is get a copy of the greyhound information sheet as betting blind in any type of sports bet or greyhound bet is a bad idea. You should also not bet on every race. We are going to do our homework and find the right bet for only the best races where conditions give a decent indication of which dog will go on to win the race. If a race does not stand out as good to bet on, do not bet on it.

The information sheet gives information on important factors like early speed, late speed, position, class and form. Ideally we want to find a dog in the race card that is far superior to the opposition dogs in preferably two or more of these categories. For example, a dog with a fantastic start (it would have a better starting speed compared to the other dogs) is likely to break well and get a clear run in the race. It is also common in the race that on the first turn the dogs come together that can result in one or more dogs falling or being deflected out of contention. A good breaking dog can avoid this trouble by being well ahead at the first turn.

Late speed indicates that a dog that breaks slower than the rest and often avoids trouble at the first bend by staying behind it. They then begin to run their race and make up ground as the race progresses. Some dogs even wait until the third turn before making their move, think of a race where you have seen a dog come from nowhere to win that is a dog with good late speed. Their stats will show improved speed for each section as the race progresses.

The class of the race is also important. Dogs may have struggled against a higher class dog and have been downgraded to take part in an easier race. This does not necessarily mean that they are the best dog in this race and you should pay close attention to their preferences in running and their achieved times, another dog may still be a better bet.

Potential race finish is an average taken of the last six races the greyhound has participated in. As greyhounds tend to run similar times within a second or so depending on any obstruction during the race it is useful to compare their performances to assess whether they are the best overall dog in the race. Pay attention to races where the dog has ran unobstructed to a win; this will be close to its best time or a time it could achieve if it wins. Is it still the best in the race? This can be part of your form analysis, is the dog getting faster or slower?

Form is a great predictive factor as the dog does not have a rider to spur on its performance; it simply runs how it runs. If the dog is consistently improving and already looks strong in its statistics then this is a good candidate for a bet as another improved performance could mean a win.

You need to use the information available to highlight good and bad races to bet on, and then select the obvious dog (or dogs) you want to bet on in the race. Ideally a contest where there are a maximum of three dogs who could realistically win is a good race to start with. Betting on greyhounds is not easy but there is plenty of information to help you along. The skill is using that information to make sensible and logical bets which will hopefully result in a profit for you.

The greyhound Redgum Assassin was actually seventh of the eight runners in the last race on the card, and being defeated 10.75 lengths having been backed in to begin as fourth favourite.

Gardiner indeed has pleaded guilty and so was given a 5-month disqualification which effectivity started on the midnight of 26th of October 2009. Thus, Redgu Assassin was disqualified from the Event mentioned and then the placings there on were also corrected.

Orange sprinter Mandrake started his racing career in October 2004. From then, he was able to give plenty of good runs which then lead him to an incredible record of 136 starts for 47 wins, 42 seconds and 15 thirds.

Right now, Mandrake is already at the grand old age of five and a half but still in better form than ever. Some say this is all because of Robert Sharp, Mandrake’s trainer. For his star greyhound to be where and what he is now, he might have some good training techniques and unique aiding skills.

At this stage, Mandrake is considered as one of the “legends” of the sport. With all of his achievements, good shape and form, he certainly should be considered.

According to Sharp, his Mandrake, “he’s always stayed sound and had very few serious injuries and the best part about him is that he likes to get up outside the field and race around them.” Added by him, “he never gets any interference and that means no bumps and bruises.”

Thus, with Mandrake now being tagged as the “bush legend”, Sharp has a better reason not to finish Mandrake’s racing career any time soon. Once, he tried to let Mandrake retire when he hurt a leg muscle so badly but then recovered not too long, so he let him race again. He then just said, “I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing and he’ll tell me when he’s finished.”

First revelation, Boherna Best is still on his way to being Draper’s best acquired and trained dog. “He’d be up there”, says Draper. For now, Draper can’t yet say he’s the best. Once he had one that was second in the derby, and he considered him as his fastest dog ever. But of course, he can’t compare him to Boherna Best. “It’s like boxers – is Ricky Hatton a better fighter than Nigel Benn, say?”, asks by Draper.

For Draper, tracks along with circumstances change and so he can’t really say one is a better dog than the other. What’s important for Draper now is Boherna Best is a good dog and he’s really glad to train him and have him for the races.

Second revelation, Draper sees the future of the sport as not so good. For Draper, BAGS racing has its pros and cons. It keeps the tracks open but at some point it keeps the overall standard lower. He believes that everyone who’s into the sport must try and improve the races so as to have quality rather than quantity. As if not, the sport may vanish in an instant. Most especially that now training dogs is a long way down the priorities of many basically because of the numerous faltering economies.

Last night’s race 8.53 was believed to be run to suit him with three front runners ready to set the race up for a stronger finisher. However, many still doubted Totti for being effective at Romford. Some said, if he’s likely 1.6 or 1.7, many will take him on.

Up for a Match at Romford Puppy Cup Final

Many names could be mentioned in terms of greyhounds that are worth a bet. However, at the final game of Romford Puppy Cup, there could only be two names that will most likely be up for a match and that’s the names of Deanridge Ammo and Confident Kermit.

On Friday, Deanridge Amor by virtue of an inside draw has the potential to getting the nod. A repeat of his first round heat will make him lead however Confident Kermit was quicker in the semi-final and will be suited by the middle draw. On Friday, there’ll surely be much action to expect.

For the record, as of the 18th day of this month, Matcott and wife Wendy had trained 377 winners, beating the previous record of 375 winners by Steve Collins, who is another Murray Bridge trainer.

Matcott success was said to be because of the kennels bought by the Matcott Family two years ago from none other than Steve Collins. It is on the said kennels where Collins trained his dogs to achieve the previous record. After having the kennels, Matcott’s dogs have been in good form.

More Achievements

By the end of the year, many believe that Matcott could still make more TAB winners. It is believe that he could amass about 400 TAB winners.

Also, he is believe to make it on the non-TAB premiership table where he now leads with 34 winners, his closest rival on 17 winners.

Hopefully, he could also be the best aspirant for titles such as Best Greyhound Trainer in Aust-ralia and South Australian Greyhound Train-er of the Year, perhaps for one more time. He already have had taken home the South Australian Greyhound Train-er of the Year award. Can he take home the award again this year? Last year, he almost made it with the Best Greyhound Trainer in Aust-ralia, ending as second placer for the said award with 248 winners. Can he bag the award soon?

With all of his achievements, Matcott wants to thank his family, Wendy and his children Elly and Jade, who all work tirelessly to help with preparation for each meet. If without his family, he could have not achieved all those great achievements.

According to some studies, there could be benefits for greyhound owners or trainers in giving their dogs some swabs to enhance their performance. Usually few swabs of certain drugs like Theobromine and Dexamethasone involve cases of positive swabs nowadays.

Fine and Disqualification

From the notes of Greyhound Racing Victoria (GRV), “Greyhounds must be allowed to compete on their merits. Trainers and owners must be allowed to compete in the knowledge that they will only be beaten on merit, and not by a greyhound which has been given a performance enhancing substance. Similarly people betting on greyhound races must be able to be confident that the greyhound they back will perform on its merits. There is no room in the industry for cheats. In addition, for animal welfare reasons, greyhounds should not be raced if they require pain killing or other drugs to optimize performance”.

Thus, although there is no clear, exact reason behind why trainers end up guilty to positive swabs, authorities has already done necessary actions by imposing a rule on positive swabs which could lead to a substantial fine for the trainer and a disqualification possibly for life for the trainer as well as to his or her greyhound.

Because of the bad happenings, some employees now of Raynham Park are afraid that the that the track, the dogs and their jobs might be phased out long before Jan. 1, 2010 closure deadline.

Some employees fear that if some other kennel owners follow suit, the track could be closed by the next spring. “Please help us. Our hours are being cut,” said Cheryl Bonaparte. Bonaparte is one of the six Raynham residents who has been advocating two years extension of the deadline.

In defense of Christopher Roberts, worker at Raynham for 11 years as pari-mutuel track announcer, “They’re trying to stay open on high-volume days”. Still, Raynham at some point wants their employees to stay calm and be deaf from all the issues.

However, due to the pull out which lead to fewer races and less betting and eventually which then lead to closure of Raynham for simulcast, it really shows there’s a trouble. Thus, employees of Raynham have justifiable reason to get worried.

Employees of Raynham also believe that some of their kennel operators are now finding for other venues that are out-of-state. Hence, because of great fear, some of them have contacted the governor’s office for help and they seem to be making some sort of impact. They wish to reach enough people at the State House to amend the Greyhound Protection Act, their only hope.
