Naturally, the magic of all of the greyhounds that Tasmania has produced, that have made their mark in the Greyhound Racing industry, is still there. But Tasmania most likely wants to produce more for everyone to experience more of this magic, perhaps on a different level.

The greyhound named Damek now comes into the scene. For many, he is most likely the next greyhound of Tasmania to make mark in the Greyhound Racing industry. He is a future superstar.

The Eileen Thomas-trained Damek is still unbeatable after having four starts. And his recent victory was none other than at Devonport where he run through home and ended up getting a 12-length advantage over his rivals in the juvenile race of over 452 meters.

Thomas’ greyhound recorded a time of 25.23, just actually behind of one-tenth to that of the great Lilli Pilli that recorded 25.13.

“I think Damek is one of the most exciting greyhounds in years and while it is great to have him in the kennel it is also very scary,” Thomas said. “I worry about all of my dogs when they race, hoping they all get around safely, but it is particularly worrying with Damek because he is such an exciting prospect.”

Thomas seems really interested of Damek. Well, she has all the good reasons to be.

“I have had some good dogs over the years and I suppose Collica was the best until Damek came along,” Thomas said. “The thing that makes Damek so exciting is the times he’s producing. To go within a couple of lengths of Lilli Pilli Lad’s record at Devonport at his first start on the track was mind blowing.”

How far will Damek go? This is naturally still for us to find out. For now, it is Thomas who got the idea how far.

Last year, the $22,000 race was won by Sky Hazzard, a southern star greyhound, came from box seven. Hazzard outwitted Miss Grub, 2007 Brisbane Greyhound of the Year.

This year, the competition was believed to be stiff as all four contenders were at their best, in their own way.

Nicely Done was with a home-turf advantage, having 31 starts at Albion Park, out of these, 11 are over 710m. However, Done was to face a challenged ahead of her with Chinatown Lad and Fallen Zorro on her inside.

Chinatown Lad and Fallen Zorro have almost the same experience, only have started at Albion Park twice. But the former has won both times, with her best time 49.91. The latter also seemed potential with a strong best time of 42.44 in Brisbane.

While Robert Britton-trained Gunnadoo Magic has already proven she has what it takes for beating Fallen Zorro and Chinatown before. But, at Albion Park, she has only raced once and unfortunately ended up at fifth place.

All four contenders were expected to perform at their best to win the prizemoney and to gain prestige as well for being the winner in one of the Australian greyhound racing industry’s iconic distance races.

Last week, Brisbane Club announced the nine greyhounds under final consideration for the 2008 Hawkins Media Solutions Superstayers 710m. Greyhounds include Black Monty, Chinatown Lad, Fallen Zorro, Gunnadoo Magic, Kulu Spirit, Lilley Criminal, Mantra Lad, Nicely Done, and Western Land.

Yesterday, 25th of November 2008, from the nine greyhounds came the final four which include Chinatown Lad, Fallen Zorro, Gunnadoo Magic, and Lilley Criminal. The final four are considered the best greyhounds from the nine announced last week. They have already received invitations to participate in the 2008 Hawkins Media Solutions Superstayers 710m to be held on the 4th day of December 2008, Thursday, at the the Albion Park Raceway at Breakfast Creek.

Enticing Prize Money at Stake

In total, prize money amounted to $22,000. The $15,000 will go to the winner, the $4000 to the 2nd placer, the $2000 to the 3rd placer, and the $1000 to the 4th placer. At showdown on the 4th day of December 2008, Thursday, all four greyhounds are expected to perform at their best. Now, who’s your bet from the final four invitees to the 2008 Hawkins Super Stayers? Few weeks before the showdown, the heat is already on!
