This new schedule will allow the stars of the Country Challenge to take centre stage at historic Wentworth Park at a time when Spring feature racing is in full swing. It also gives each individual club that hosts a leg of the Country Challenge the opportunity to broaden the appeal of Greyhound Racing to their local Community. Trainers and owners also benefit from greater prizemoney.”

GRNSW decided to have the official schedule for the 2012 Country Challenge also to give the participants relief from the problems with the schedules of greyhound races. They would be allowed to even be in the K.S. Black & Co. Country Challenge Showdown freely. The revised calendar would be helpful to them, really helping them make it to the greyhound races without any trouble. It would be one for them to also be simply thankful for.

It was said that a well-known independent economic consultancy firm worked on the report. And the objective of the company was to ascertain the real economic and social contribution of greyhound racing in NSW. And it was determined that it has been making huge economic and social contribution.

GRNSW Chief Executive Brent Hogan said: “This report confirms that Greyhound Racing is a significant contributor to the NSW economy. With the recent expansion of NSW Greyhound Racing and plans afoot to continue that expansion during 2011, the economic contribution of the sport to the state’s economy will continue to grow, along with the amount of revenue collected by the Government.”

Of course GRNSW officials and members were said to be so glad with the confirmation greyhound racing has been helping the economy and communities of NSW. Most especially the governing body’s Chief Executive, he was very happy with it. Well, it was just proven to those not that supportive of NSW greyhound racing that it can really be helpful to the economy and communities of the state. It can truly extend great help to the economy and communities of the state indeed in trouble because of the global economic crisis.

Mr. Hogan said in addition: “The Access Economics report highlights both the substantial economic and social benefits of Greyhound Racing to the state of NSW. It is imperative that Government and local Councils recognize this contribution and continue to support the sport as part of their ongoing planning and administrative duties.”

Mr Hogan said: “We see this as an excellent innovation that will promote the local breeding industry here in NSW. With such an attractive financial lure available to breeders, we were only too happy to work through the finer details to make the agreement official. Ultimately, the financial rewards for being the first Group race winner sired by Goodesy will be returned to a breeder in the industry and that sits comfortably within our goal of making the Greyhound Racing industry a financially attractive one.”

Mr Hogan confirmed that his entire organization was pleased by the $50,000 bonus to the first Group winner of the great sire Goodesy. Everyone in GRNSW believed that it could greatly improve the breeding interest of many and then could also elevate sires in NSW.

The incentive program for breeders will be good for couple of years. The breeder of the winner at a Group One, Group Two or Group Three level will get to bring home and enjoy a huge bonus in the few years to come. The track upgrade works, covering the 400m start and the catching pen, were set to be actually completed by early July. Early next month, the 413 meter boxes will already be shifted and the racers could already have a safer start on to the bend. Instead of 413, the race will be over a distance of 400 meters. “This represents a new dawn for our sport as we look to position it appropriately for the challenges it faces in the medium to long term,” said GRNSW Chief Executive Brent Hogan. “Having racing on a Friday night at Wentworth Park will enable us to expand our core customer base and welcome new people to the sport. Before long, greyhound racing will be the only code to race in the city on a Friday night after scheduling changes in other sports.”

According to Professor Percey Allan AM, Chairman of the Board of GRNSW, Cameron’s report hold on to large and significant amount of research and preparation and so was welcomed by his colleagues. GRNSW was satisfied with how the report turned out.

“GRNSW is particularly pleased that Alan Cameron has recognized that the future sustainability of racing in NSW requires its three codes to be rewarded according to their relative contribution to racing turnover rather than each being guaranteed a fixed income share regardless of results,” Professor Percey Allan said.

Well, not to mention that Cameron’s report is promising. It may have some good effects to the greyhound industry itself. For Brent Hogan, Chief Executive of GRNSW, the report recognizes the greyhound industry’s ability to be flexible and seize opportunities as they arise. The review can boost industry’s potential to improve and to gain total success.

Also, Hogan said, “Greyhound racing has been able to achieve substantial growth, reflected in an increase in market share but despite this the Inter-Code agreement has not been amended to reflect this and the greyhound industry has not been rewarded for its achievements”. He added as well that, “the Inter-Code agreement has always provided a significant barrier to innovation and these recommendations by Alan Cameron will allow codes to be placed on a sustainable footing which will allow greyhounds to meet future changes in technology and be paid based on individual performance.”

By next year, on the 31st of January, GRNSW will provide a detailed response to the report or review.

Starting January 1, 2009, the increase will take effect at TAB and Non-TAB level and starting February 1, 2009 will be then on at Wentworth Park Saturday night meetings. The increases will actually inject $3.5 million per annum into the prizemoney pool which will create a premium metropolitan race night (Saturday night). This all will then take prizemoney to a level which compares favorably with other states.

Chairman of the Board of Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW), Professor Percey Allan Am, believes that the increase is an excellent result. Professor Percey has said, “the Board’s vision is to be Australia’s premier supplier of greyhound racing product and is focused on long-term sustainable growth that will drive increased prizemoney returns to participants.” In addition, “the advent of the Race Fields legislation and the resultant income stream has allowed the Board to achieve the prizemoney increase in a fiscally responsible way that will benefit the whole industry.”

Basically, the increase will be more on the TAB sector. GRNSW ended up on this to raise graded prizemoney levels to a comparable rate to that which is on offer in Victoria and also to assist with grassroots racing by an increase in funding to the country sector.
