Young Greyhound Racing Enthusiasts Completed HGRC’s Celebration

Tas RacingGood thing the young greyhound racing enthusiasts were able to be around at Thursday night’s meeting as they have completed the celebration of Hobart Greyhound Racing Club or more known simply as HGRC for its 75 years of existence. HGRC indeed ran its first race meeting on The Domain at TCA track, January 30, 1935. The track though, is currently not being used.

The first race was won by Val Par, a Victorian greyhound. The victory of this greyhound was then seen by 4,000 people that rushed to the venue.

It is worth mentioning as well that the meeting was participated by 46 greyhounds which ran in 9 events and with 15 of which that competed twice and 6 that went around for three times.

Denise Fysh, HGRC chairwoman, was glad about the recognition given to the club. The people who came for their celebration melted her heart. They just showed that the club has been truly a success.

“It (75 years) is quite a milestone for any club and well worth celebrating,” said by Fysh.

And it was just right that the first winner on that Thursday night was the 19-year-old Nick Howard, the youngest trainer in Tasmania. Having the youngest trainer as the first winner on that night in a way meant a new start, a young one.

The successful trainer was given a trophy then. But more than the trophy, the trainer was given significant acknowledgment.

HGRC’s celebration for its 75 years of existence didn’t end on that night. It continues up to now and will continue in years and decades to come. It will go on with its objective in racing. It will go on being a part of greyhound racing enthusiasts, young and old. It will be around longer than we can most likely imagine.
