Everyone in the Greyhound Racing industry can be considered a racer and worthy of an honor. Well, just recently at the Hyatt Regency Perth, West Australia’s awarding ceremony for deserving racers was held. Not everyone was given an honor, only a few, but these most worthy went home with the much chased recognition.
The Schweppes WA Greyhound of the Year title for 2009 was awarded to Miss Slick. The Max Julien-trained bitch indeed got the top greyhound racing honor in Perth.
For the record, Miss Slick raced for 39 times and recorded 10 wins and 11 placings in 2009. She earned a total of $216,550 in stakes with additional WESTCHA$E breeder bonuses that amounted to as much as $43,400.
The most notable accomplishment of Miss Slick in 2009 was her amazing win in the Group 1 SKY Channel Perth Cup way back in March. Against a strong field, she headed home to run down Trew Millions. Max and Pam Julien, owners of Miss Slick, were able to collect as much as $165,000 in stakes with additional bonuses for such win of Miss Slick.
While others who have been actually just in the sides or in the back of the racing tracks were also given recognition. The late Dr. Peter Thomas BVSc was indeed given honor for his significant contribution to the Greyhound Racing industry through the Gerry O’Keefe Achievement Award. And Linda Britton was given recognition for exemplary performance as trainer through the Leading Trainer Award. Of course, Ben MacLean was also honored for his efforts in training 49 winners in his first full calendar year being a trainer through the Youth Achievement Award.
The most worthy to be given an honor, to be given recognition, indeed went home with pride. They got what they truly need to get as reward for their efforts in the Greyhound Racing industry.
