The GRNSW Stewards recently announced the result of the inquiry conducted on the incident at the New South Wales Greyhound of the Year Awards night which actually involved Ray Watson and Wayne Lambourne.
Ray Watson is the owner of Miss Elly Mint and Wayne Lambourne of Take The Kitty. Both Miss Elly Mint and Take The Kitty were contenders then for the NSW Greyhound of the Year title.
But it was actually Take The Kitty that won the prestigious NSW title. Lambourne indeed made it over Watson.
For some, the result of the NSW Awards night might be the cause of the incident, the reason of the headbutt. Yes, according to some, Watson headbutted Lambourne.
Well the GRNSW Stewards made an investigation on the alleged incident that happened during the NSW awarding ceremony at the Hilton Hotel, night of February 12. Inquiries were made to Watson, Lambourne and others like licensed attendant Mr. Cork, Mr. Ellison, Mr. Ellison and Mr. Crawford. Some evidences were then obtained which made Watson guilty of a charge under GAR 86 (o) of showing wrong behavior in relation to greyhound racing. Watson was guilty of striking Lambourne to the right side of his forehead through headbutt.
Watson was then immediately penalized because of such misconduct by actually being disqualified for a period of 6 months. The beginning of the disqualification however was deferred until March 12 to give Watson time to work on his interest in greyhounds.
But for many the penalty that was given to Watson can actually be considered just right considering the nature of the incident, the clean record of Watson in relation to offences of such kind over a long period of time and the condition of Watson himself during the incident which according to some then was actually bad because of alcohol.
