Trainer Len Howard will surely not forget the Vets Medley final success of Prince Mattan in Hobart on a Thursday night. Prince Mattan went to the final as one of the favorites and indeed was eventually able to prove deserving to be one.
Howard seemed so happy just after the big event. However, the great happiness of the trainer did not last very long as the stewards came near to ask about the racing habits of Prince Mattan which could be related to an injury. And the result of the inquiry, Prince Mattan suffered a right shoulder injury.
“That he failed to go past Stylish Moon was disappointing but he was diagnosed with a shoulder injury,” said Howard.
Prince Mattan has only been with the trainer for more or less two months. However, the trainer has actually expressed thoughts on the dog being sold and being actually moved to New Zealand. But though will be losing the dog, the trainer also confirmed a litter of nine would come soon.
“The litter of nine was sent to Melbourne to be broken in at Tooradin and from what I’ve heard they all have above average ability,” said Howard. “It’s probably at least six months before we are racing these pups but it will come soon enough.”
But though Howard will have a litter of nine, the trainer will surely not forget Prince Mattan. And the Medley final success of Prince Mattan in Hobart on a Thursday night that left the trainer with mixed emotions will definitely always be remembered.
Prince Mattan will always be a part of the career, of the life, of the trainer. The dog will actually always be the trainer’s dog. Prince Mattan will always be in the memory of Howard, and we are just so sure of this.
