It was a dream come true for trainer Tony Hoyland when Smokin’ Gonzales got to secure the win in the Betfair Breeder’s Classic final. The trainer fancied of seeing the racer in a big race successful.
Smokin’ Gonzales actually went to the final after a very impressive semi-final success. And the racer just continued to really impress a lot with another very good win in the final event.
From box six, Smokin’ Gonzales flew the lids and after a fight with the favorite Ella Lucy went on to beat the favorite by two lengths and with Ren Shen five lengths away in third.
The win was Hoyland’s first Breeder’s Classic accomplishment and the trainer just seemed happy with it.
“This is brilliant because I’ve had as many as three runners in a Flying Amy Puppy Classic in Brisbane and got pipped on the post so this is real good,” said Hoyland.
The trainer was actually asked to raise three from the litter and then he had one with name of Botox, and just also made it to the big event.
“I was asked to rear this pup and a couple of others from the litter and they were all athletic types, so I bought the bitch that we named Botox,” said Hoyland. “I told the dogs’ owner Michael Wallworth that if ever he wanted to race the other two in Tassie I’d be only too pleased to take them and that’s what panned out. We eyed this Breeder’s Classic a while back and pretty much set him for the race. I really want to thank Michael (Wallworth) for having the faith in me to prepare this dog for the race series.”
Just more dreams to come true for the great trainer. But for sure, just more to come true with the trainer’s dedication to the job.
