Reigning NSW Greyhound of the Year to Return to Racing

Take The KittyYes, the reigning NSW Greyhound of the Year, Take The Kitty, will return to racing through the one off Tuesday night meeting. The award-winning greyhound will actually have first start back after suffering from a shoulder injury in a heat of the Macro Meats Golden Easter Egg at Wentworth Park.

Take The Kitty was given NSW highest honor after making it in one of 13 wins at Wentworth Park last year, the Group Three Xmas Gift, and also being second in the Group One Paws Of Thunder. Take The Kitty was classified as one of the best eight greyhounds in the nation, thus just right for the Top Gun and the Temlee races at The Meadows.

But the greyhound earned a shoulder injury in a heat of the Macro Meats Golden Easter Egg at Wentworth Park, therefore was sidelined for some time. However, champion trainer Ken Cheetham was recently interviewed and just said that the star sprinter can hit the track again after recovering from the shoulder problem.

“The initial shoulder that was injured was as good as gold going into the ‘Egg’ heat, but he injured the other one,” the trainer said. “He seems fully over the injuries now and is ready to go.”

However, the trainer also said that the greyhound must only be for short courses for a while.

“I’m going to keep him to the short courses for a while because he can run some slashing times, then we’ll look at stepping him up,” said the trainer.

And for the greyhound’s future after suffering from injuries in a matter of weeks, the trainer wished just the best.

“He hadn’t had an injury in 18 months of racing, and then did both shoulders,” the trainer said. “Once they start getting injuries it’s hard to keep them going. Hopefully when he does retire from racing he can have a stud career.”
