The Prison Pet Partnership (PPP) program of the Greyhound Adoption Program (GAP) has been actually the best bet to win in Victoria’s 2008 Community Work Partnership Awards. Well, the said program did actually win last week in St. Kilda. Other programs that have great winning potential were the Graffiti Removal Program and the Bicycle Recycling Program.
The Prison Pet Partnership (PPP) program was believed to have had won mainly because it has something to do as well with the prisoners of Dhurringile Prison in Victoria’s north. The program was believed not only to be helpful for greyhounds particularly those retired ones but also helpful for prisoners as they learn to be responsible.
The program was launched last year in September. After more than a year of existence, the program has already helped lots of retired greyhounds in which each was allocated to a prisoner who acted as foster carer for a period of six weeks for obedience and integration course.

Quite unexpected, Dhurringile Officer Roger Jorgensen was named runner-up in the Outstanding Field Officer category for his role in the Prison Pet Partnership.
Because of the success of the program, it is now set to expand into other minimum security prisons at Beechworth and Tarrangower women’s prison, with a goal to adopt and train more and more greyhounds and to form numerous responsible prisoners.
