Portsmouth to Close If No Settlement Between Graham and SEEDA Happens Before Week Ends

Yes, if no settlement between promoter Eric Graham and the South East England Development Agency or simply known as SEEDA takes place before the week ends, Portsmouth will close. Thus, the almost 80 years of greyhound racing at Portsmouth will come to an end if no such kind of settlement happens before the week ends. Portsmouth was scheduled then to close on March 27.

Graham and SEEDA have been actually up to lease negotiations after the agency has purchased the Target Road site from GRA in 2008. But up to this point, there is no clear agreement between the promoter and agency specifically in regards to the issue on lease extension. Only a good settlement between Graham and SEEDA can actually save Portsmouth and so it is just so important for it to take place.

Graham conceded that he has been exerting great efforts to talk to the agency to actually extend the two-year-lease however he admitted as well that he has not obtained any good response from the said agency.

“I’m still talking to them [SEEDA],” Graham conceded. “But to be honest I’m not sure they are listening.”

But the promoter is still hopeful about settling everything with the agency.

“We hope to continue and will engage in talks as long as we can, but I’ve had to explain the situation to all the trainers and staff and told them that the deadline is Friday,” said Graham. “If there is no agreement in place by then, Saturday’s meeting will be the last.”

Naturally, though he is hopeful about putting everything in place, he is also realistic most especially when it comes to the possibility that no good settlement be in place before the week ends, thus it would be the end for Portsmouth on Saturday.

But we just hope for the best for everyone!
