Big Moose, a champion Tasmanian dog, survived a serious operation which was actually to repair a fractured hock that he obtained. The injury unfortunately ended his racing career just two weeks ago. A lot of greyhound racing and betting enthusiasts were really saddened then by the news about his career. But at least now, these enthusiasts can feel relieved as at least he will be better soon despite of what happened.
According to Butch Deverell, trainer of Moose, the champion Tasmanian dog survived the operation and without complications. Not to mention that he said the prognosis was good.
Deverell also put into details what happened after the operation. He said, “I picked him up from the vets and took him home on Tuesday morning and he never even gave a whimper when I picked him up”.
Deverell also explained that Moose will most likely undergo few operations. He actually said, “they put screws in the breaks in the hock and we just have to wait a few weeks for that to settle down and then he’ll be back to the vets for another operation” and that, “he also damaged the ligament in the same leg that requires micro surgery but they can’t do that until the inflammation settles down”.
It is really so distressing to hear news like this about the condition of one of the best dogs, one of the best racers. But then, if it is God’s will, then let it be done. What we can just do now is be like Deverell that despite being heavyhearted because of what happened to him should still hope his condition gets better soon.
Though Moose already don’t have a career after everything is settled in regards to his condition, for sure he will still be good as a stud dog at Deverell’s property at Penguin on Tassie’s North-West Coast. He will still be one of the best dogs, though in a different way around.
