McNair Once Again Talked About Sunderland

Yes, husband of open-race trainer Liz McNair, Rab McNair, once again talked about Sunderland. However, he did so to make it clear that he has really nothing but admiration for William Hill.

He said to the Racing Post: “I read in Muttley on Saturday how my comments about Sunderland in the week were potentially causing the track difficulties as they plan next year’s Festival, and I can assure you that was never on my mind. As I said before, I’ve nothing but admiration for William Hill, the sponsorship and money they’ve put into greyhound racing, and their attention to detail when it comes to hospitality.”

He clarified that he seemed just frustrated at what they experienced at the track. They actually experienced lack of luck.

He said in addition: “The lads at Sunderland do a good job, and what I said regarding the track was more made out of frustration at the lack of luck we had with our dogs there [Romeo Reason and Roo Come On lame, King Lee knocked over], than any desire to throw a spanner in the works. Yes it can be a tough track to run, but the Festival is a fantastic innovation, and speaking as an open-race kennel, it’s competitions like the William Hill Classic which keep us on the road.”

Mr. McNair also talked about the departure of David Hood who had been with the firm for a long time. He believed that Hood did a great job particularly on the commitment of the firm to the greyhound racing.

He said: “I was also gutted to read that David Hood had left the company as he really worked his socks off to make sure Hills’s commitment to greyhound racing was 100 per cent, and I can not speak highly enough about the work he did.”
