Many have been waiting for Jean Jeannie to actually make her British debut and have been actually expecting she will be at Doncaster for the Betfair Trainers’ Championship to finally be through with it. But the handler of the Australian bitch just conceded that she might miss the event and so only means that she might not actually make her British debut anytime soon.
Charlie Lister is currently the one looking after Jean Jeannie and according to him it is possible for his bitch to make it to the event if only she will have more three-runner trials. The bitch actually improved from an initial of 30.37sec over 483m to 30.00sec just the previous weekend but for him the improvement doesn’t matter much.
“She still needs two three-runner trials to qualify so it looks as if the Trainers’ Championship is out,” the handler said. “It might be no bad thing because there’s no point in rushing her just for the sake of it. She’s been off for a few months after picking up a slight injury in her last race in Australia. I’ve had her a few weeks, but she only had three hand gallops before her first trial so won’t be near being fully fit yet.”
The handler himself still has faith on Jean Jeannie. So far, she’s just right for him, doing well.
“She’s settled in really well, seems a nice bitch with good pace, and I’ve been pleased with the way she’s handled everything, especially the outside hare,” the handler said. “Sometimes when a greyhound has been used to chasing an inside hare they can course it a bit and run wide, but she’s been railing.”
People who have been waiting for Jean Jeannie to actually make her British debut should just not expect that she will be through with it anytime soon. She might really miss the Betfair Trainers’ Championship so they should not really expect that she will. It is the best thing to do!
