The track upgrade works, covering the 400m start and the catching pen, were set to be actually completed by early July. Early next month, the 413 meter boxes will already be shifted and the racers could already have a safer start on to the bend. Instead of 413, the race will be over a distance of 400 meters. And also, the catching pen will already be re-located further around the track and the racers could have longer run-in.
GRNSW has indeed approved the $45,000 funding to support the accomplishment of the track upgrade works at the famous Newcastle circuit.
GRNSW Chief Executive Brent Hogan has talked about the track upgrade works and seemed just happy to do so.
“The Hunter region is such a strong greyhound area and in the space of a month the two neighboring tracks are being upgraded to improve both greyhound safety and the quality of racing,” said Hogan. “The projects fit squarely within the pillars of the Board’s soon to be released Strategic Plan which highlights the need for ongoing track improvements to ensure the welfare of the greyhounds and consistency for punters.”
Three race meetings can actually get affected by the track upgrade works and therefore were decided by the officials to be moved. Of course, no race meeting shall be interrupted and the officials should just ensure that no race meeting shall really be interrupted.
