Greyhound racing through casino is actually now booming according to many greyhound racing and betting enthusiasts. Margaret Dwyer, a prominent breeder and trainer, even said that greyhound racing through casino is just like “beef week” for the town. She indeed said, “it’s certainly booming, I’ve never seen anything like it”.
Bruce Knight, Secretary of Casino Greyhound Racing Club, believes that the region of Northern Rivers, and Casino specifically, no doubt produces 15 to 20 per cent of the greyhound population of the State. And he explained that, “the Casino Club receives more nominations per meeting than any other greyhound club in NSW”.
The casino is truly one of the State’s strongholds. The amount of talent in its area actually implied that the first Blue Paws Super Series has been an unforgettable, exciting one, significantly holding four heats then for the final the other day.
Knight said, “while some other clubs have struggled to get the four heats for the series, the Casino Club had no trouble thanks to the prolific breeding that has taken place in the area”.
To qualify for the Blue Paws Super Series, owners of dogs went through a registration process before noting their potential. However for the female breeder and trainer Dwyer, the series offered owners extra incentives for wins and places in the series’ special events, thus it it was worth the risk. She exclaimed, “heavens above, yes!”. And in addition she said, “it costs money to enter for the Blue Paws, but you get the extra prize money”.
Just with the favorite Surin’ Sal and younger starter Mad Max, her two entrants in the Blue Paws Super Final, Dwyer is anticipating to take home the $5000 prize money. “Whatever dog leads around the first corner will win, and I’d like to hope it’s my little one”, she said.
