Gary Sallis has just done the same thing that many others who have also been significant to the training ranks have done and this is to quit the said training ranks. He has actually been in Sittingbourne for years however has also been battling it out to make a living and recently make it possible for his family.
Sallis said, “The game is getting harder and harder. Owners aren’t replacing dogs, and until the authorities get the prize-money issue sorted out, I’m afraid the game is only going one way.”
And he added, “My wife Caz’s mother is terminally ill, and Caz needs to be nearer to her home in Brighton to spend time with her. Caz has taken a job with Brian Clemenson, and I’m going to take a little break and then help my brother on a part-time basis – maybe a few days each week.”
Sallis has his reasons for quitting the training ranks. But they might not be also enough for him to feel completely relieved.
Sallis actually said, “It’s disappointing, but it was the sensible decision to make bearing in mind what’s going on with the family and in greyhound racing in general at the moment.”
It is something not good for his fans or supporters but then Sallis needed to make such kind of decision. He might have also wanted to stay in the training ranks but it was not possible anymore. If he would have remained, still he would have felt troubled.
Might be, it was a tough decision to make but as what Sallis said, it was a sensible decision. For him, it is not practical to stay in the training ranks considering the current happenings in his family as well as in the greyhound racing industry. It is the best possible to make indeed.
