Changes to Sandown’s Group Racing Calendar Revealed

Sandown ParkThe Australian Greyhound Racing Association has been working on things to actually minimize conflicts between Group races of similar distances and conditions. And so for us it was not surprising to hear about the certain changes made on the Group racing calendar specifically for 2010/11 season of the Sandown Greyhound Racing Club.

The changes were most likely part of the pursuit to minimize clashes between Group races of similar distances and even conditions.

Now, with the changes made on the Group racing calendar specifically for 2010/11 season of the Sandown Greyhound Racing Club, the club will actually have:

  • The McKenna Memorial on July and on distance of 595m
  • The Sir John Dillon Memorial (715m) on late October as opening event of the November Superdogs series and lead-up event for the Group 1 Bold Trease Carnival Cup (715m)
  • The Group 1 Sapphire Crown for open age bitches on May
  • The Henry Harrison Memorial (715m) as replacement to the Group 2 Maidment Memorial and lead-up event to the Sandown Cup
  • The Dawson final (515m) for the Sandown Cup series
  • The Laurels (515m) for restricted age bitches on December for the Silver Chief series at The Meadows
  • The Bold Trease Carnival Cup (715m) with Group 1 status
  • The Lizrene (715m) and Maidment Memorial (595m) as Special Events

All of the Group 1 races were then set to have a minimum of $75,000 to the winner. And all of the Group 2 races were set to have minimum of $40,000 to the winner. While all of the Group 3 races to have a minimum of $25,000 to the winner.

The changes made can just really help Australian Greyhound Racing Association in attaining its aim. Most likely with the changes, clashes between Group races of similar distances and even conditions can be just minimized.
