There were some significant changes reported to be applied to the format of the NSW GBOTA’s Wentworth Park Classic events. And now the changes seem all set to be applied to the major NSW events indeed with the Australian Greyhound Racing Association’s review of the 2010/2011 Group Racing programme being accomplished.
The Classics of the Association are the Schweppes Vic Peters Classic and the Rapidvite Peter Mosman Classic. And the events were considered by AGRA as Age Restricted Classics and therefore shall conform to the AGRA Aged Restricted rules.
The rules will actually require the events to be ranked, the events to be restricted to greyhounds not older than 30 months of age on the first day of the month, and the event being within the AGRA Group Racing Calendar not become available to greyhound that has no maiden race victory.
NSW GBOTA Executive Officer Brenton Scott was interviewed regarding the changes to the format of the major NSW events and just expressed optimism about them. Scott said that changes would only make the events more significant.
“More greyhounds will now be eligible for both events, the shift away from non-prizemoney qualifying trials was clearly successful with this year’s Peter Mosman series and the elevation of the 2011 Mosman to Group 1 status is great news,” said Scott.
One thing really notable in regards to the changes is that the Peter Mosman Classic was elevated to Group 1 status and will be a $50,000-to-the-winner event. The Peter Mosman will be held in June 2011.
Well, Scott must be right for expressing optimism about the changes. The changes could be just helpful. And owners and trainers, well, they will eventually appreciate them. With actually some great things that the changes could later provide, owners and trainers will indeed just be thankful for them.
