Bradley Keel Guilty to a Charge

Another trainer was found guilty to a charge. Bradley Keel, trainer of Tip Top Thomas, was found guilty to something like a charge under Greyhound Racing Rule 83 (2)(a).

The greyhound Tip Top Thomas raced and then won in Race 7 at Greyhounds WA Cannington on December 31, 2009. However, the said greyhound went through a post race urine sampling and was discovered to be under the prohibited substance caffeine and its metabolites during the race.

The sampling was handled by the ChemCentre in Perth and was verified by the Racing Science Centre in Brisbane.

The evidence was obtained from the trainer himself, Mr. Keel, and from others concerned such as ChemCentre Chemist Mr. James White, RWWA Industry Veterinarian Dr. Peter Symons and RWWA Principal Investigator Mr. Phil O’Reilly.

Mr. Keel pleaded guilty to the accusation of nominating and even presenting his greyhound Tip Top Thomas to vie in the Race 7, the Sandra Powell Canning Stake of 530m, though not free of the above-mentioned substance and its metabolites.

After considering some important things, Mr. Keel was given penalty of disqualification for 6 (six) months and effective immediately.

Therefore, Tip Top Thomas was disqualified in the Race 7 at Greyhounds WA Cannington on December 31, 2009. The placings then turned out as:

1st Hondo (D. Menaglio)
2nd New Wonder (L. Britton)
3rd Congratulations (L. Britton)
4th Gold Eureka (P. Harvey)

Tip Top Thomas was the declared winner in the Sandra Powell Canning Stake of 530m from the box 5. The greyhound had beaten Hondo by in the time of 30.66 by .5 of a length.

Well, what happened to Mr. Keel and his greyhound Tip Top Thomas is definitely not something that can make greyhound racing fans smile. Another victory deemed as not true. But of course, something like this just naturally happens.
