Forty Twenty, a Group race win chaser, actually won in the $36,000 Group 2 Maidment Memorial. After pursuing another Group race win, good thing he made it at Sandown Park on Friday in such big Group race event. At last, he was able to achieve his second Group race win, something he has been so after of.
It was Forty Twenty’s second start at Sandown Park and he commenced at $5.10. He had a bad start but went on with great track sense to rail strongly and have the second position behind the favorite at $1.60, Next Top Model, as both of them moved to home straight.
The so eager Forty Twenty continued to rail to get the lead while Join The Queue at $37.70 raced. But the Central Coast stayer beaten the well-liked Next Top Model in 42.25 by 2.75 lengths by not leaving the rail to the line.
Trainer John Heard then anticipated another event at Sandown Park, perhaps must have thought of another Group race win.
According to the trainer, “to race here at Sandown Park at such a great track is a huge thrill. I stayed at Stevan Shinner’s place (in Pearcedale) and I’ve been treated like royalty. It’s been a fantastic thrill and I’ll back here with Forty Twenty real soon.”
The win at Sandown Park made Forty Twenty’s career earnings reached as much as $120,000. Most likely, he will return to Sandown Park with his trainer.
But for now, the tandem of John Heard and Forty Twenty should first be expected in the Group 2 Gold Cup at Wentworth Park. More or less, before returning to Sandown Park, the two will still have to prove they can make it in another event, just after a win.
